Amalgamation
Update - November 17, 2011
Due to several factors the four agencies have
chosen to stop the amalgamation process.
Craigwood Youth Services, Oxford-Elgin Child &
Youth Centre, Vanier Children’s Services and Western Area Youth
Services(WAYS) began the process of amalgamation with a dream two years ago.A dream to better serve more children, youth and
families; to provide much needed support and training for our staff; and to
create a strong infrastructure-a sustainable organization for the next
generation.
We are grateful for the continued support of
this vision. To everyone who has contributed, whether directly or
indirectly, we thank you.
Within our current budgets we were unable to
address significant financial constraints. The issue of salary harmonization is a gap we cannot
close on our own, even with significant savings, and one we cannot close
without additional Ministry funding.
This process has allowed our four organizations
to work much better together. We know however, that much good has come of and will
continue to be garnered from all of our collective efforts.
Benefits from our efforts include: better ways
of serving children, youth and families; shared practice models; new
partnerships; inter-agency communities of practice; shared knowledge at the
infrastructure level and of course, stronger working relationships across
the four Boards and the agencies.
While our
dream of amalgamation will not be realized we are confident that due to the
dedicated efforts of staff in all four agencies the children, youth and
families in this community will benefit from what we have been able to
accomplish.
